Anne Marie Reynolds
Each month the team at YAX selects a star athlete. This athlete truly embodies our core values with perseverance and accountability at the forefront.
Our February Athlete of the Month is Anne Marie! We’d like to give a shoutout to Anne Marie for consistently bringing her hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm into the studio, via livestream, and on demand.
1. How long have you been practicing/training at Yoga Athletex?
I have been practicing at Yoga Athletex since November 2017. (I had to search deep in my records for that one!)
2. What benefits have you received since training at Yoga Athletex?
I practice yoga to get and stay stronger and more flexible, for the long haul. I just turned 60. I am lucky enough to have three granddaughters under 4, and a grandson expected in a couple of weeks, so I have a lot of reasons to stay healthy. I have lots of babysitting to do!
3. What is your sport/activity outside of the studio?
I don’t have an actual sport outside of the studio, but my husband and I are building a small cabin on some rural property in Rockport. I can often be found assembling cabinets, carrying construction supplies, painting, and cleaning the job site. I also love gardening, cooking, and I am an amateur beekeeper.
4. What is your favorite class at Yoga Athletex and why?
Yoga for Athletes, with Elizabeth, is my favorite class. I like the slower format, so I can really concentrate on form, transitions, and getting deeper into the poses. I don’t know how she does it, but every class is different and thrilling, and yet comfortingly familiar. I prefer going to the studio, for the sense of community there, but I also enjoy the Livestream.
Lately, I have been doing some on-demand HIIT 30, and I am really enjoying that too. It only takes 30 minutes, but I really feel like I have accomplished something. It’s not my FAVORITE yet, but it’s a close second. I even bought some mobility bands!
I really admire the way that Kalynn and Patricia have responded to the pandemic with all kinds of great options to keep us moving. In the before-times, I traveled for work at least twice a month. Now, when I get back to my travel schedule, I will be able to work out at the studio from the road.
5. Any advice for new people trying out the studio?
Don’t be shy! This is a very un-intimidating studio! Even though there are a lot of accomplished athletes working out here, everyone is welcome, treated equally, and encouraged. Try all the different classes at least once, and figure out what works for you. The coaches are really good at handling people with all levels of fitness in the same class without making anyone feel out of place. I just love this studio and am so glad to have found it. I hope new students will come to feel the same way.
