My love of volleyball
I fell in love with volleyball at an early age. (I even took a ball to bed with me when I was little!) It was a big goal of mine to play in college, so I did everything volleyball from 5th grade to senior year of high school to try to make that dream come true.
While volleyball is an amazing sport and creates amazing relationships, like all sports, it’s very demanding on the body and mind. Practicing every day with repetitive motions has the tendency to create injury, especially if proper rest and recovery measures are not in your training program.
Throughout my time playing volleyball, I suffered from injuries, but always kept pushing to play until I couldn’t play any longer.
How I found yoga
I went to an orthopedic doctor for my back and he suggested yoga. I took him up on it, started practicing, and soon found my second passion in life.
The benefits of yoga allowed me to continue playing volleyball without pain, which I didn’t think was possible.
Because of yoga, I am now able to play sand volleyball, as well as do HIIT workouts, pool workouts, and strength training. Also, because of the breathwork in my yoga practice, I was able to overcome many hard times in my life, including surgeries and stressful situations.
I want to share the benefits of yoga with other athletes!
Yoga is a great recovery tool for athletes to have in their toolbox! It is a series of movements that allows your body to open up, gain flexibility, increase range of motion, and calm your nervous system.
The key benefit is increasing range of motion.
Studies have shown that limitations in range of motion hinders athletes’ potential to become the best they can be. Small steps like starting with a 20 minute yoga sequence twice per week can result in major benefits.

All of the issues that athletes face (tight hamstrings, rounded shoulders, low back pain, and lack of mobility in the thoracic spine) can be reduced with a consistent, mindful yoga practice.
