So ask anyone who knows us and she (or he) will tell you we couldn’t be more different! Quite frankly, I think that’s why this partnership works! We each bring a lot to the table, for our business but more importantly for our clients. In efforts for our followers and clientele to get to know us more, we thought it would be fun to highlight some of our differences and similarities in a new feature we plan to call “She Said, She Said”
What do you remember about your first yoga class?
Patricia:
My first yoga class was probably in middle school. 8th grade most likely. My mom was my P.E. Teacher. My mom is THE ultimate PE teacher. She taught us every different sport, every game, every body part, every muscle, nutrition and even YOGA! I remember laying on a mat, in savasana, in a dark room. The room was connected to the gym. She had us lay, in silence, and do breath work. At the time I was thinking, WTH!? We’re just laying here. But, now I realize how important that was to me. To lay still, clear the mind, rest, and focus on the breath. She was also guiding us through meditation with soft music in the background. It was a very profound experience for me. I have loved and appreciated yoga practice since that day.
Kalynn:
I’m pretty sure I took a few yoga classes in middle school and high school with my sister, all I remember is feeling a little lost, confused and awkward for sure. My first Bikram Hot Yoga class is very vivid to me though. It was in 2009. I had just been told a couple months before that I could no longer play volleyball and that all I could do was walk, swim, bike and do yoga. So, my cousin Ryan talked me into going to Bikram yoga because it had supposedly made him feel so much better. I was skeptical. I went, felt like I was going to pass out, walked out of the class half way through and thought I was dying. Like any normal athlete, I went back the next day.
What was your opinion on yoga back in your “athlete” days?
Patricia:
I always knew there were benefits to it. However, allowing myself to designate at least 60 minutes/day to yoga was beyond me. How can anyone get a complete work out in doing yoga? Be still for 60-90 minutes?! No thanks! Plus I am a Christian, therefore, I cannot do yoga. It is sac-religious (so I thought). I could not fathom the idea of slowing down and listening to my body. There wasn’t time for that! Hehehe….so little did I know.
Kalynn:
That it was a little weird and really awkward for my long limbs to be graceful or that it was really hard to get through a class without laughing the whole time. So i thought it was weird, awkward & hard. Not much has changed, its still those things but I’m so much more comfortable with myself and the benefits are Ah-Mazing.
What would you tell your “beginner” yoga self knowing what you know now?
Patricia:
Be patient and face your fears. There is profound greatness through yoga.
Kalynn:
To be more open and willing to do things that seem impossible at first.
What’s your favorite thing about practicing yoga?
Patricia:
Discovering my true self and the serenity I gain from being on my mat.
Kalynn:
The way it makes my whole body feel, especially while laying in savasana. I seriously love me some savasana.
What’s your favorite hobby?
Patricia:
If I can’t consider yoga a hobby any more, it would have to be drawing. I love to draw. I wish I had more time to dedicate to drawing. It almost has the same effect as yoga. So peaceful.
Kalynn:
Mmm.. I’ve always loved scrapbooking and looking through old pictures. I like to hold on to my memories. Oh and garage sales, I freaking love garage sales.
What’s your favorite TV Show?
Patricia:
Before Netflix, it was FRIENDS. After Netflix, it’s Breaking Bad then Call the Midwife.
Kalynn:
Friends is my go to show. Even though I have all the episodes on DVD and have watched them more than I’d like to admit, I still love it. I’ve been watching The Blacklist and it is crazy! I’m not really into scary stuff, so watching it before bed means I’m doomed for a nightmare for sure.
